I think we can all agree that it is much easier to indulge in a piece of cake or your favourite takeaway, than taking time out of your day to hit the gym or follow an online home workout. In this blog I'm going to teach you the benefits and importance of exercising regularly, Some easy home home workouts you can do and how to make workouts fun!
We are told that we just need exercise to lose weight. This is far from true. Exercise is extremely important for our mental health. Whether it's feelings of anxiousness or depression you may be feeling. Maybe none of these. Maybe you just feel stressed and it's getting you down. Exercise will help circulate enough oxygen to your brain, which will help these feelings. Even something as simple as daily walks is enough. Something is better than nothing.
What are the health benefits of exercise?
- Help you control your weight
- Reduce your risk of heart disease
- Help your body manage blood sugar & insulin levels
- Help you quit smoking
- Improve your mental health & mood
- Help you quit smoking
- Help keep your thinking, learning, and judgment skills sharp as you age
- Strengthen your bones and muscles
- Reduce your risk of some cancers
- Improve sleep
- Increase your chances of living longer
These aren't all benefits but these are a few main ones. I know it's not always easy to hit the gym for many different reasons. You may already have a busy schedule. You may not be comfortable. Or you simply just prefer home workouts. I am excited to share with you some easy and simple home workout moves below.
Super quick and easy home workout moves:
- Squats
- Lunges
- Jump Squats
- High Knees
- Bavarian Split Squats
- Calf Raises
- Push ups
- Dips
- Dead Lifts
- Jumping Jacks
- Burpees
You have probably heard of most of these, as these are the basics. However just incase you was a little stuck, I thought to add them. I think with exercising it's important to not put too much pressure on yourself, as this can push you a step back. Take the first step and that's already a progress.
How can you make exercise part of your regular routine?
- Make everyday activities more active (small steps are still steps. Even taking the stairs, rather than the elevator)
- Be active with friends and family (make a workout partner?)
- Keep track of your progress (keep a diary)
- Make exercise more fun (Listen to music or watch TV at the same time)
- Find activities you can do even when the weather is bad (walk around the indoor shopping centre)
I hope this blog encouraged you to make the first step in getting an exercise routine. Remember even taking small steps at first is a huge progress.
